Makalu region lies in eatern Nepal which house Makalu Barun National Park- conservation area for many endangered species. Makalu Barun National Park covers 2330 sq. KM and house 16 mountains including Mt. Makalu(8,463m) - fifth highest mountain in the world. Formerly a restricted area, it spans five major ecological zones where can be found the lush, tropical Arun Valley, dense forests or rhododendron and fir and alpine meadows that lead to the mighty Barun glacier.
